What is Cold Laser Therapy?

This therapy is a non-invasive treatment that doesn't require strong medications or painful surgeries that may not provide the necessary relief.  Also known as Low-level Laser Therapy or LLLT, it uses energy from the invisible spectrum of light to reach tissues below the skin's surface and repair damaged cells. The minimal wavelengths reach between 600 and 700 nanometers for most treatments, and deeper penetration is possible with 780 to 950 nanometers. During the process, all patients will feel is the device touching their skin. There is no sound, vibration, or heat.

Each session should take between 5 and 20 minutes. LLLT isn't limited to chiropractics. The technique is so safe, many dentists and other medical professionals regularly use it to treat a variety of conditions.

What Conditions Can LLLT Treat?

There are a variety of symptoms and disorders that cold therapy with a laser can help. The most common symptoms include back, neck, muscle pain. However, it can also help patients with sinusitis, wounds that won't heal, contusions, and post-operative recovery. Specific disorders are,

  • Temporomandibular Joint Disorders (TMJ)
  • Tendinitis
  • Bursitis
  • Tennis elbow
  • Plantar Fasciitis
  • Carpel Tunnel Syndrome (CTS)
  • Osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis
  • Repetitive Stress Syndrome (RSS)

These are only a few of the ways LLLT can help patients. If you have any questions about this therapy, please, contact our Norfolk office and request an appointment with Dr. Niblo to see if it can help you find relief.

What Happens After Treatment?

Many patients start to feel relief immediately following their first session. The increase in blood circulation will cause the swelling to decrease, which significantly improves function and reduces pain. For patients that have been experiencing pain for an extended time, it may take two to three visits to experience a reduction in pain and other symptoms. If you have a chronic condition, regular therapy can help control symptoms and reduce pain.
