Norfolk Chiropractor Can Help Lower Your Risk for Diabetes
November is Type 2 Diabetes awareness month. This devastating disease kills more Americans every year than breast cancer and AIDS combined – and it is completely preventable. Unfortunately, many Americans still do not consider diabetes a serious disease until it is too late.
With more than 79 million Americans at risk for developing Type 2 diabetes, it is more important than ever that we make basic lifestyle changes to our reduce our risk for the disease. Here, at Norfolk Chiropractic, our chiropractor Dr. Scott Niblo is committed to helping everyone live healthy lives.
Norfolk Wellness Tips for Healthy Living
Get moving. Exercise is essential to preventing the risk of diabetes. You don’t have to run a marathon to stay active. Find an activity you love, whether it’s gardening or walking through the neighborhood, and commit to breaking a sweat at least three times per week. If you suffer from
arthritis, neck pain or back pain, being active can be a challenge. Our chiropractor can help manage this pain by restoring alignment to your body through chiropractic adjustment. When your body is properly aligned, you will reduce your risk for illness and injury – and be able to enjoy the activities you love, pain-free.
Eat right. Making healthy food choices can be challenging, especially if you are short on time and money. But resist the urge to hit up the drive-thru for dinner. Build a healthier dinner plate filled with fruits, vegetables, whole grains and lean protein. Short on time during the week? Try making healthy meals on the weekend, and then freezing individual portion sizes to eat during the week. Not sure which foods are right for your body? With our nutritional counseling, we can design a dietary plan that ensures you receive the right balance of nutrients and supplements for your specific wellness needs.
Taking the first steps. Making a lifestyle change can be daunting, and getting started is the hardest part. Our lifestyle counseling can help you get motivated and stay focused. Incorporating small changes into your daily life can greatly reduce your risk for diabetes.

Three Tips for Healthy Eating From Our Norfolk Chiropractor
Posted on 2011-09-23 11:16:39
Our clients frequently ask us for guidance when it comes to nutrition and healthy eating.
We are always happy to help our patients find positive lifestyle changes that can help improve their health, which can also help to reduce back pain, neck pain and headaches. Perhaps the easiest way to maintain your optimal weight is to adopt a lifestyle that focuses on healthy eating. To achieve this goal, there are many simple choices that you can make every day. First, avoid eating out at restaurants as much as possible. Restaurant meals are much higher in fat and calories than a comparable meal cooked at home. If you must eat out, look for sections of the menu where light or low-calorie meals are listed.
Second, whenever possible, choose to eat fresh, unprocessed food. Processing removes important nutrients from food, and additives like preservatives are very unhealthy when consumed in large quantities.
Finally, try to eat food that keeps your mouth busy. Snacks like apples, nuts and celery that take time to chew help you feel full faster and are more satisfying than items that can be consumed quickly.

Try Acupuncture at Norfolk Chiropractic
Pain can be debilitating to your entire body, regardless of the cause, but you don’t have to put up with it. You can instead opt for acupuncture, one of the drug-free, natural treatments we offer at Norfolk Chiropractic. The process works with a series of needles our chiropractor gently inserts along pressure points on your body. As you lie back and relax, the needles work to open up blocked areas, allowing your body’s energy to flow freely throughout your entire body. This typically produces a soothing, whole-body serenity – and major pain relief.
Traditional Chinese Treatment for Back Pain, Neck Pain, Osteoarthritis and So Much More
The traditional Chinese treatment has been around for thousands of years – and for very good reason. It can alleviate pain in the back and neck, migraines, headaches and the agony of arthritis in all its variations. It is also helpful for alleviating the symptoms of other conditions our chiropractor commonly treats, such as fibromyalgia, sciatica, carpal tunnel syndrome, tennis elbow and other sports-related injuries brought about by strain or overuse. The treatment is not limited to injuries or ailments either but can provide relief following dental surgery or other procedures as well as help soothe labor pain and menstrual cramps. Cancer patients, undergoing chemotherapy, have used the treatment to help quell nausea and vomiting caused by the chemotherapy.Although we’ve mentioned some of the more common conditions treated with this traditional Chinese practice, there are many others. These include asthma, allergies, depression and anxiety, stress, high blood pressure, cough, dizziness and vertigo, ear inflammations and infections, gallstones, glaucoma and other eye problems, diabetes, sinusitis, stroke, insomnia, and respiratory and lung issues.
It has also been successful with certain addictions, such as helping people to quit smoking. If you have any questions or want more information on conditions we can treat, please contact our office. Our mission is to help everyone we can live pain-free, whole lives.
