Three Tips for Healthy Eating From Our Norfolk Chiropractor

Posted on 2011-09-23 11:16:39

Our clients frequently ask us for guidance when it comes to nutrition and healthy eating. nutrition, norfolk chiropractic

We are always happy to help our patients find positive lifestyle changes that can help improve their health, which can also help to reduce back pain, neck pain and headaches. Perhaps the easiest way to maintain your optimal weight is to adopt a lifestyle that focuses on healthy eating. To achieve this goal, there are many simple choices that you can make every day.
First, avoid eating out at restaurants as much as possible. Restaurant meals are much higher in fat and calories than a comparable meal cooked at home. If you must eat out, look for sections of the menu where light or low-calorie meals are listed.

Second, whenever possible, choose to eat fresh, unprocessed food. Processing removes important nutrients from food, and additives like preservatives are very unhealthy when consumed in large quantities.

Finally, try to eat food that keeps your mouth busy. Snacks like apples, nuts and celery that take time to chew help you feel full faster and are more satisfying than items that can be consumed quickly.

Is Your Body Screaming for Pain Relief?

Try Acupuncture at Norfolk Chiropractic

Pain can be debilitating to your entire body, regardless of the cause, but you don’t have to put up with it. You can instead opt for acupuncture, one of the drug-free, natural treatments we offer at Norfolk Chiropractic. The process works with a series of needles our chiropractor gently inserts along pressure points on your body. As you lie back and relax, the needles work to open up blocked areas, allowing your body’s energy to flow freely throughout your entire body. This typically produces a soothing, whole-body serenity – and major pain relief.fibromyalgia, arthritis, norfolk chiropractic

Traditional Chinese Treatment for Back Pain, Neck Pain, Osteoarthritis and So Much More

The traditional Chinese treatment has been around for thousands of years – and for very good reason. It can alleviate pain in the back and neck, migraines, headaches and the agony of arthritis in all its variations. It is also helpful for alleviating the symptoms of other conditions our chiropractor commonly treats, such as fibromyalgia, sciatica, carpal tunnel syndrome, tennis elbow and other sports-related injuries brought about by strain or overuse. The treatment is not limited to injuries or ailments either but can provide relief following dental surgery or other procedures as well as help soothe labor pain and menstrual cramps. Cancer patients, undergoing chemotherapy, have used the treatment to help quell nausea and vomiting caused by the chemotherapy.

Although we’ve mentioned some of the more common conditions treated with this traditional Chinese practice, there are many others. These include asthma, allergies, depression and anxiety, stress, high blood pressure, cough, dizziness and vertigo, ear inflammations and infections, gallstones, glaucoma and other eye problems, diabetes, sinusitis, stroke, insomnia, and respiratory and lung issues.

It has also been successful with certain addictions, such as helping people to quit smoking. If you have any questions or want more information on conditions we can treat, please contact our office. Our mission is to help everyone we can live pain-free, whole lives.

Spinal Decompression: A Safe, Affordable Alternative to Back Surgery

Posted on 2011-09-13 18:09:50

back_pain_med.jpgUp to 80 percent of the American population has suffered from back pain at some time in their lives. And, approximately 20 percent of that number struggle with chronic back and neck pain and/or the on-going pain of arthritis. Many people turn to surgery or prescription drugs. But, there ARE other alternatives.

What is Spinal Decompression?

Spinal decompression is one such alternative. Using this technique, a skilled chiropractor can alleviate the pain of a disc herniation or neck pain by using a series of stretching and contracting movements. An experienced chiropractic clinic will combine spinal manipulation with holistic approaches like nutrition counseling, massage, corrective exercises and lifestyle advice.

Chiropractics vs. Surgery

Spinal manipulation has several major advantages over traditional back or spine surgery. Visiting a chiropractic clinic is much less expensive than visiting a surgeon, and the cost of an office visit pales in comparison with the cost of a hospital stay. Chiropractic techniques are also much less invasive than surgery (no incision is made and no anesthesia is involved.)  Because it is less invasive, chiropractic therapy is much safer than traditional, not always successful, surgery. Nor does spinal manipulation require the lengthy recovery and rehabilitation period necessary with surgery and the time away from work and family associated with this recovery. If you're suffering with chronic pain, you owe it to yourself and your family to give chiropractics a try.

At Norfolk Chiropractic, we offer a wide range of pain management and holistic services, including chiropractic care, physical therapy and lifestyle counseling. Our Norfolk chiropractor, Dr. Scott Niblo can help you manage your pain without costly surgery or potentially harmful prescription drugs.
